Grace Mongey admits she almost quit her career as an influencer last year due to online trolling

Grace Mongey has admitted she almost quit her career as an influencer last year, due to online trolling.

The mother-of-two, who has 168k followers on Instagram, opened up about her struggle during a new episode of ‘The Talk’ on RTÉ Player.

Grace confessed the negativity she received on social media got so bad last year that she wanted to quit and get an office job.

The Dublin native admitted: “There was a point where I just wanted to throw the towel in, get an office job and give it all up.”

Grace said speaking to a therapist helped her deal with the trolling, and said: “I am in a very strong state of mind now and I can just brush it off.”

Sharing a clip of her interview on Instagram, the social media star wrote: “I discussed my anxiety and experience with it. As you all know I have openly shared my journey with my mental health over the years.”

“Documenting the highs and lows of it to show you all that it is ok and help you open up and understand your own mental health. On this episode I chatted about a particularly hard time last year when I almost threw in the towel and had a complete change of career.”

“‘Trolling’ was at an all time high and my mental health was at an all time low,” she confessed. “I wasn’t coping very well and the added pressure of sharing my life online wasn’t helping.”

“I felt judged from people who didn’t even know me let alone know how bad I was feeling. It was in the dark time that I made decision that something needed to change in order for me to become strong again.”

“I promised myself and my family and friends I would never go onto certain websites again and read horrible things about myself.”

“I asked everyone not to discuss the things that were being said about me online with me and I took it day by day to build myself back up again,” she continued.

“A year on and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m sure you all can see it as you all send me the nicest messages saying I look much happier now. This is my year and I’m so glad I found the strength to fight back.”

“I’m just a few short weeks I’ll be getting married to the love of my life and when I look back at the person I was last year I hardly recognise her.”

Grace concluded her post by writing: “As I said in the show, ‘what people say about you is none of your business’ and that’s what I live by now.”
