EXCLUSIVE! The IFTAs lose quarter of a MILLION viewers as TV3 broadcast for the first time

This year’s Irish Film and TV Awards lost 274,000 viewers, after TV3 took over the broadcasting rights.

The IFTAs were always broadcast on RTE, and despite being labelled a “shambles” last year, they still pulled in 382,000 in 2014, with 581,000 tuning in the year before.

But Goss.ie can exclusively reveal that only 108,900 people tuned in to watch the IFTAs on TV3 last night.

Success: Pat Kenny’s In The Round beat the IFTAs

In figures seen by Goss.ie not only did they lose over 250,000 viewers, but TV3 also lost out to UTV Ireland’s show In The Round.

Hosted by Pat Kenny, last night Shane Filan appeared on the show for an in depth interview.

The show was a huge hit with viewers at home with over 143,000 tuning in.

Whereas the Irish Film and Television Awards only attracted 108,000 viewers.

Winners: Jim Sheridan was awarded with Lifetime Achievement | KYRAN O’BRIEN

While the IFTAs took place in Dublin’s Mansion House on Sunday April 24th, TV3 only aired the show last night in a one hour special.

It’s a big blow for the annual ceremony, which has seen ratings plummet in the last two years.

This year the usual A-listers failed to turn up to the event, with Michael Fassbender, Colin Farrell and Jamie Dornan all missing in action.

Winners on the night included the cast of Love/Hate, Sarah Greene, Deirdre O’Kane and Aidan Gillen.
