Animator and Visual Effects supervisor Richard Baneham has revealed whether he thinks Cillian Murphy will take home the Oscar for Best Actor at this year’s awards.
The 96th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 10 where the Irish actor is nominated for his role in Christopher Nolan’s biopic, Oppenheimer.
Richard, who has won two Oscars for his work on Avatar and its sequel The Way of Water, spoke to Goss.ie on the green carpet of the Oscar Wilde Awards, where he was being honoured.

Speaking about Cillian’s nomination and potential win, Richard said: “Let’s hope, fingers crossed.”
He continued: “And Ryan [Robbie Ryan who has been nominated for Best Cinematography for Poor Things] aswell…let’s hope that its not just on the acting side, but on the technical side aswell.”
Richard who has also worked on The Lord of the Rings franchise, revealed where he keeps his Best Visual Effects awards, which he earned in 2009 and 2023 respectively.
He said: “There’s one in the office and one at home in my mum and dad’s house.”
“Although, I have to be careful about saying that,” he laughed.
Cillian will go head-to-head against Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) in his category.
