EXCLUSIVE! Holly Carpenter reveals why she’s ‘so glad’ her Love Island audition ‘didn’t work out’

Holly Carpenter has revealed why she’s “so glad” her Love Island audition “didn’t work out”.

After seeing Longford native Maura Higgins on the show in 2019, the former Miss Ireland agreed to do an interview for the show the following year.

While Holly previously admitted she was initially “disappointed” she didn’t get a call back after the audition, she is delighted that she never went on the show.

Speaking on the Goss Island podcast, sponsored by F&F, Fashion at Tesco, explained: “I was asked a couple of times [to go on the show] while I was in relationships.”

“And then when I was 28, I got a DM from a management company that looked after Maura Higgins, and they were like ‘We’d really love you to fly over and do an interview with ITV.’ So I actually went over and did a screen test with them.”

“I am just so glad now that it didn’t work out because I don’t know how I would have coped with it. Having had that small experience with reality TV [appearing on Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model back in 2013], it is really tough… It’s just not easy.”

“I also wouldn’t have met [my boyfriend] Jamie, so I’m delighted with how it worked out.”

Speaking about the screen test, Holly admitted: “I don’t think I was very honest about how insane I am. I think I should’ve been more honest. They were like, ‘What would you do if you were talking to a boy and a boy comes over and steals him?'”

“And I was kind of trying to be cool in the interview, I was like ‘I wouldn’t care’, whereas in reality I would lose my s**t. But yeah, it just didn’t work out.”

“They didn’t even call me back, or let me know that I hadn’t got it. I just kind of knew I didn’t get it. But I am happy that it didn’t work out that way.”

“I think I go with my gut a lot, and something just felt off about it. I think there was just part of me that was like, ‘I don’t know if this will actually be good for you’. Like fair enough you might get a PLT collection, but how will your mental health be?”

The fourth episode of Goss Island is now live across all streaming platforms, including Spotify and iTunes.

This week, host Alan Cawley is joined by Holly Carpenter to delve into the drama of this year’s Love Island, which has already featured some shocking twists and turns.
