Billy McGuinness dedicates his DWTS dance to Aslan bandmate Christy Dignam: ‘It’s going to be special’

Dancing With The Stars contestant Billy McGuinness has revealed he’s dedicating this week’s dance to his Aslan bandmate Christy Dignam.

Ahead of the Irish rock band’s 40th anniversary this year, Billy will pay tribute to their frontman Christy, who he describes as “the best singer Ireland has ever produced”.

The guitarist and his pro dancing partner Hannah Kelly will be dancing to Aslan’s hit song Crazy World on the RTÉ show’s Dedicated Dance special tonight.

Talking about the the song, Billy said: “I think it’s a song that when were long gone, I think it’s one of those songs that will carry on forever. The song has done so much for us and it’s still doing it.”

“It’s going to be a special moment and a special memory for Christy as well,” he added.

“There was never any doubt that I wasn’t going to dedicate it to Christy, he’s been on the stage with me for 40 years and we’ve been all around the world.”

Billy said his Aslan bandmates are having a “field day” watching him dress up on the show, but insisted he’s “loving” taking part in it.

Speaking about why he decided to sign up, the Dublin native said: “We were in the middle of lockdown and there was no live music, there was nothing, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to keep busy.”

Tonight’s Dedicated Dance episode of DWTS will see each dancer dedicate their dance to someone special in their lives.

In a twist this week, the celebrity with the highest overall score will receive a free pass to week 7.
