Bad news for the contestants on RTE’s Dancing With The Stars

Ireland’s Dancing With The Stars contestants are set to be paid “significantly less” than their Strictly Come Dancing counterparts.

While stars including Irish presenter Laura Whitmore will be well rewarded for competing in the BBC show, RTE’s competitors won’t have the same luck.

A source told The Herald: “I would imagine it won’t even nearly match the minimum UK fee. It has not yet been decided if the stars who are brought on board will be paid a flat fee or if there will be cash incentive to stay until the final stages. We wouldn’t have the same budget as the UK.”

Bad news: Although Roz Purcell is among those tipped to take part in DWTS, the RTE show reportedly won’t pay well | Instagram

Roz Purcell and Pippa O’Connor are among those tipped to take part.

This comes after Louis Walsh, who has reportedly been paid £1 million to return to The X Factor, insisted he would not take part as RTE can’t afford him.

“They wouldn’t pay me anything because they haven’t got the money,” he said.

No comparison: RTE can’t compete with the BBC’s money

The Mayo native said he believes there’s no money in Irish TV but does come back to Irish shows if he likes them.

“There’s no money in Irish TV, let’s be honest,” he told Nicky Byrne and Jenny Greene on their 2FM show.

“I do [come back to Irish TV] occasionally if I like the show like I did Miriam and The Late Late Show. But I do think the show is going to do really well.”
