Aoibhinn McGinnity so happy to stop being typecast as Trish with musical role

Love/Hate star Aoibhinn McGinnity has told how she doesn’t want to be typecast as Trish.

And the Monaghan actress is extremely excited to break out from her gangland role, by taking on Elf The Musical.

She said: “I want to do as many different parts as I can but I’m not a huge planner.

“I don’t think you can plan, but it dawned on me that I really missed musical theatre and I was trying to figure out how to get back to it, because Ireland doesn’t have a whole pile of musical theatre.

“Then Elf came along and here I am getting my voice in tune looking forward to singing and dancing like I did at college. I feel very lucky.”

But Aoibhinn, 28, admits she’s unsure whether any of her Love/Hate cast mates will be coming to see next Tuesday’s opening night in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre.

She said: “I never like knowing when family or friends are in the audience until afterwards. I like the blackout – just being able to see the shapes of heads.

“The day we announced the show, I got loads of texts from many of the adults I know who told me they’ll be coming – and they didn’t even use their kids as an excuse. That’s a brilliant sign.”
