Holly Carpenter opens up on THAT controversial article: 'It was a nightmare'

Holly Carpenter has opened up about that controversial article, that caused her to be slated online for weeks after it was published.

The former Miss Ireland, who writes a weekly column for the Herald, received serious hate online after her column was printed disclosing details of her boyfriend Danny O’Reilly’s gig.

Speaking about the situation on 2FM’s Breakfast Republic, Holly said, “That was a complete nightmare.”

Open: Holly opened up about the backlash she received after her infamous article | PATRICK O’LEARY

“I would write my column every week and I’ve never really written anything personal about myself. I write about where I go and what I get up to but I never write personal, personal stuff.

“I sent my article in and last minute I got a call saying it was a couple of words short so could they tweak it,” she admitted.

“Me being really naive I said, ‘Yeah that’s fine, go ahead’ and then the next thing it was three sentences that were added in that were what I didn’t want to talk about.

“Then I got a week of being slated on Twitter, slagged everywhere and all that,” she explained.

Holly revealed that some phrases and words were added into the article that she would never say.

“Stupid stuff like, ‘Oh before the gig we went for tapas, tapas is great for a crowd’. I would never write or say that or ‘the 3Arena was full of revellers’, I’ve never used the word ‘revellers’ in my life,” she said.

Opening up about the backlash she received in the wake of the article being published, Holly said it was “nasty”.

“They were quite nasty to be honest, some people were writing ‘this girl is so thick’, ‘so attention seeking’, ‘this girl can’t write, what a dumb model’ and actually tagging me saying ‘Do you have two brain cells together? What’s wrong with you?'”

Sense of humour: Holly admitted she could laugh the situation now | VIPIRELAND.COM

“I have a good sense of humour, if I had written [those lines] myself, I would of hold my hands up. Some of the things people were saying were funny,” she said.

Thankfully, Holly had family and friends around to laugh it off with.

“I’m glad that I have such good close family and friends to laugh at it with but if I was having a bad day and someone was to say something, it’s not nice,” she divulged.
