Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were on their way to Amsterdam when their £40 million private jet was struck by lightning.

The UK Mail on Sunday has reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were travelling to an opening party in Amsterdam last month when the incident occurred.

A bolt of lightning reportedly stuck the nose cone of the luxury Dassault Falcon 7X, narrowly avoiding the navigation equipment.

Although around 30million volts surged through the plane’s fuselage, the plane managed to land safely at Schiphol Airport.

The luxury aircraft underwent repairs and safety checks for over week, as it remained grounded.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex jetted to Amsterdam to celebrate Soho House founder Nick House’s 55th birthday and the opening of the latest branch of his exclusive members’ club chain.

The party was a three-day celebration, and was attended by a number of famous faces – including Jenna Coleman, Michael McIntyre, Eddie Redmayne and Nick Grimshaw.
