Danny O’Reilly has admitted that despite The Coronas being one of Ireland’s biggest bands they certainly aren’t loaded.
The Dublin frontman says that everyone thinks the foursome are extremely rich, but only have the cash to pay their rent.
He said: “In Ireland people hear you on the radio and assume you’re loaded. Actually, it’s tough even being a big band in this country.
“We were paying our rent OK [but] we wouldn’t have been able to save for houses. Our albums went double platinum here — but we never made money from record sales.

“The live thing was keeping us going. Ultimately, you have to break into a bigger market to thrive.”
Now The Coronas are set to try and break the UK, after signing to Island Records in London, even moving there two years ago.
But Danny told the Sunday Times that they have definitely experienced the worst the career can throw at them.
“I remember one show we did at Whelan’s, where three girls showed up. Ireland were playing France in a football match and everyone was watching that,” he said.

“Halfway through, I gestured to the rest of the guys — they went off and caught the end of the game and I finished the performance solo.
“Every so often one would poke their head out and say, ‘It’s still nil-all.’
“”We’ve had our share of dodgy gigs down the years. Those things stand to you. When you do move up, nothing throws you. You’ve seen it all before.”
