The Interview set to have 'wide release' in Ireland next month

Controversial film The Interview is set to be released in Irish cinemas, it has been confirmed.

Sony Pictures have said the movie, which stars Seth Rogan and James Franco, will receive a “wide release” in the UK and Ireland next month.

It tells the story of of a fictional plot to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and will be shown in cinemas from February 6.

Sony had previously withdrawn the film from theatres in the US following a cyber-attack against the film studio but have since made the flick available online and at select cinemas.

The original decision to pull the movie from cinemas in America was heavily criticised and was called a “mistake” by President Obama.

The movies release is thought to have been the motivation behind the hacking scandal which saw private emails and Sony staff member’s salaries being released online.
