Ruth Negga tipped for Best Actress Oscar

Ruth Negga has been tipped as a frontrunner for the Best Actress Oscar in her film Loving.

The Limerick native stars in the 1967 drama as a woman in an inter-racial marriage – which was illegal at the time.

The powerful film has already been a hit having received a standing ovation at it’s premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year and opened the Austin Film Festival.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s awards expert Scott Feinberg published his thoughts on who to watch in the lead-up to the Oscars.

Ruth’s competition according to the film journalist include Emma Stone for her role in La La Land, Annette Bening in 20th Century Women, Viola Davis in Fences, and Meryl Streep for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins.

The film is also considered a frontrunner for Best Makeup & Hairstyling and a major threat for Best Picture.

Irish director John Carney’s Sing Street has also been tipped as a major threat for Best Song and a long shot for Best Original Screenplay.
