The Irish director behind new thriller Dracula Untold, has revealed his father passed away just one week before filming.
The Dublin director was picked by Universal films to make the new movie in Northern Ireland, and although he’s now a success, his father didn’t live to see it.
“Just as I was pitching Dracula I learned he had a brain tumor. So myself and my fiance packed everything in and came home,” he said.
“He would have been incredibly proud. I like to think his spirit is there and he’s there with me the whole time, so it was very bittersweet for me.”
“He never got to see it,” he said.
Speaking to Brendan O’Connor on The Saturday Night Show, Gary revealed he is taking part in a marathon to support St Francis Hospice, where his father was looked after.
And it’s  a big year for Gary, not only is he premiering his movie next week at Dublin’s Savoy Theatre, three days after the marathon Gary will be getting married.
