Why did Tom Hanks say he has five children at the Golden Globes – when he’s only a father-of-four?

His statement raised a lot of eyebrows

Tom Hanks confused fans at the Golden Globes this week, when he said that he has five children.

The 63-year-old was honoured with the Cecil B. DeMille Award on the night, and during his speech, he gave a special shoutout to his family.

The actor teared up as he looked at his family, and said, “A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that. A wife who is fantastic in every way, who has taught me what love is.”

“Five kids who are braver and stronger and wiser than their old man is. And a loving group of people who have put [up] with me being away months and months and months at a time.”

“Of course, otherwise I wouldn’t be standing up here if they didn’t have to put up with that,” he said. “I can’t tell you how much your love means to me.”

After his speech aired, people pointed out that Tom only has four kids with his wife Rita Wilson – sons Colin, Chet, Truman, and daughter Elizabeth.

However, PEOPLE have since reported that Tom was including his son Colin’s wife, Samantha Bryant.

A source told the outlet that Tom “thinks of Sam as a daughter.”

So sweet!
