Ruby Rose deletes Twitter following Batwoman blacklash

Ruby Rose has deleted her Twitter after receiving backlash over her new role as Batwoman.

The actress was cast as the first lesbian lead-superhero last week and received a mix of comments on social media after the news was released.

The 32-year-old took to Instagram to confirm the good news and tell fans how much the role meant to her, saying, “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

Although the Orange Is The New Black actress received many positive reactions, she also received many negative comments regarding her new role.

Before Ruby deleted her Twitter she wrote a string of tweets in response to the online trolls and said, “Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be Batwoman’ come from?”

“I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay'” she continued.

Batwoman’s alter ego, Kate Kane, has been an openly gay superhero since 2006, when creators decided to make her the first openly homosexual superhero in DC Comics.
