Lindsay Lohan confirms Freaky Friday sequel: ‘We’re going to have a lot of fun’

Lindsay Lohan has confirmed that Freaky Friday will return for a sequel.

The hit film debuted in 2003 and saw Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play mother and daughter who accidentally switch bodies and are forced to live each other’s lives.

The 37-year-old actress who played Anna Coleman, has revealed that the highly-anticipated sequel is “in the process.”

Lindsay told PEOPLE that she was “just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it.”

“Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this.”

Earlier Monday, the Mean Girls actress said on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that a Freaky Friday sequel is still happening and revealed that her and Jamie Lee are “excited” about the project.

The film celebrated its 20th anniversary last year and Jamie Lee brought up potentially making a sequel to the hit film.

In an interview with the New York Times last year, the 65-year-old reflected on the hit film: “As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday.”

“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'”

At the time, Lindsay added that the two were “both open” to a sequel.

“We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Freaky Friday is based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers.

Disney filmed a version starring Jodie Foster and the late Barbara Harris in 1976, then another version in 1995 with Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffman.
