Bindi Irwin pays tribute to her late father Steve on the 15th anniversary of his death

Bindi Irwin has paid tribute to her late father Steve on the 15th anniversary of his death.

The Australian wildlife expert was tragically killed on September 4, 2006, after he was pierced in the chest by a stingray barb – causing a massive injury to his heart.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Steve’s 23-year-old daughter Bindi shared a photo of her baby girl Grace, and shared her heartache that she never got to meet her grandad.

She wrote: “This sweetheart has been watching her ‘Grandpa Crocodile’ on the projector at our camp here on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve. She lights up when she sees him on screen.”

“I wish with all my heart that Dad could hug my beautiful girl. It’s been 15 years since he passed away. I hold on to the thought that he’s her guardian angel now, watching over the most special part of my life, Grace Warrior. ❤️”

Bindi and her husband Chandler Powell welcomed Grace back in March, and revealed her middle names ‘Warrior Irwin’ was a tribute to Steve.

Bindi explained: “Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s.”

“Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior. Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad.”
