Big Sean shares his regret about writing break-up song about ex-fiancée Naya Rivera

Big Sean has shared his regret about writing the infamous song ‘I Don’t F**k With You’ following his break-up with Naya Rivera.

The former couple began dating in 2013, getting engaged October that same year – before calling it quits in April 2014.

Following Naya’s tragic death, the rapper admitted that if he had known the outcome of her life he would not have written the song.

Speaking to New York Magazine about whether he regrets that the song is associated with his break-up with Naya, Big Sean said: “That’s a tough question to answer because I’m still processing a lot of that.”

“I don’t feel comfortable talking about it because I want to respect her.

“She’s made such an impact on people, and she’s done so many great things in her life and her career that it was hurtful to even have that [song] be associated with her,” he continued, adding the track “wasn’t a diss to her”.

“She knew about it, and she liked it. We had a breakup that was very public, and we were young and we forgave each other and moved on from that.

“If I would have known something this tragic would have happened, I would have never made the song.”

Naya was declared missing on July 8, after her four-year-old son Josey was found alone on a rented pontoon boat in the middle of Lake Piru.

Five days later, the 33-year-old’s body was discovered floating at the surface of the lake.

Sharing a black-and-white photo of Naya, alongside a photo of the actress cuddling her son, Sean paid tribute to the star writing: “Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless your Soul! Thank you for blessing us all with your talent and presence. you are a hero!”

The 32-year-old went on to praise the actress for saving her son, after police officials said they believe Naya rescued her son from the lake before she drowned.

Sean continued: “Not just because of how you saved your son, also because of the barriers you knocked down for so many people to make them feel confident in themselves and to stand tall and be proud when they couldn’t achieve that on their own.”

“I appreciate and cherish everything that ever happened between us for making me wiser and a better person. I’m still grieving and in shock, I can’t believe this is real.”

“I’m praying for you and your family and I know your watching over them and protecting them. Rest In Peace Naya,” he added.
