Ireland Baldwin has hit back at right-wing commentator Candace Owens, over comments she made about her father on Twitter.
The 26-year-old, who is the daughter of Alec Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Basinger, leapt to the actor’s defence after the Pro-Trump journalist suggested the shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was ‘poetic justice’ due to his impersonations of former President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live.
Last week, Hutchins was killed on the set of the Western movie Rust when a gun was discharged by the 63-year-old actor during rehearsals.
It later emerged that the prop gun contained a live round, despite the actor reportedly being told the gun was ‘cold’ (without ammunition).
Alec has been cooperating with the authorities and no charges have been filed in the investigation.
On October 22, Candace wrote in a since-deleted tweet: “Alec Baldwin spent 4 years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers.”
“What has happened to Alec would be an example of poetic Justice if it weren’t for the actual innocent people that were murdered by him. Pray for their families. So sad.”
Alec’s daughter Ireland has since responded to Candace’s comments on her Instagram Story.
Sharing a photo of the journalist, she wrote: “You are the most disgusting, human, cancerous human being I’ve ever come across.”
“Regardless of your foul opinions most of the time, the fact that you would disrespect the life of a woman who was accidentally and tragically killed… Shame on you.”
In another post, the 26-year-old continued: “Be a republican. Be unvaccinated. I don’t give a f**k. There are plenty of liberal ones that I support as well… But one f*****g thing I find myself doing is being RESPECTFUL.”
“But we aren’t debating masks and vaccines and abortion and trans rights here… A woman’s life was lost. Your tweets, lack of information, and ignorance are hurting people.”
“You and @jackmposobiec don’t have a clue what you’re even talking about and you usually never do.”
“I respect people’s opinions… but if you support these absolute clowns… please don’t follow me anymore. I beg.”
In a shocking turn of events, it appears Ireland and Candace were able to come to an understanding.
The 26-year-old later shared a screenshot revealing she and Owens had actually had a private conversation, which ended with her thanking the Trump supporter for “taking the time to have a real conversation” and wishing her a “peaceful evening”.
Owens replied: “No problem. Same to you.”
She captioned the post: “Some times having an actual conversation can go a long way…”
In another post shared on her Instagram Story, Alec’s daughter wrote: “I will always stand for what I do…”
“But one thing we need of in this world is perpetuated hate and anger and fighting… especially in the wake of this tragedy.”
“Thanks, again, to everyone who have been so kind and supportive,” she added.
On October 21, Ireland’s father Alec unknowingly fired a loaded prop gun while rehearsing on set in New Mexico, killing Halyna Hutchins and injuring movie director Joel Souza.
The day after the accident, the 30 Rock actor wrote in a statement: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.
“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.
“My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
