Star Wars and Chill? Domhnall Gleeson hired Dublin cinema to watch Star Wars Trilogy

Domhnall Gleeson has revealed that he hired a private cinema in Dublin so he could binge watch the first three Star Wars films in one day after landing a role in the sci-fi series.

The Brooklyn star nabbed the role of the villainous General Hux in The Force Awakens the day before the film’s first table-read with the A-list cast.

However, the Malahide native has admitted he wasn’t a huge fan of the film franchise when he was younger.

“I wasn’t a nut the way some of my friends were,” he said.

“One of the joys of the experience was going back. I asked for the original trilogy, so I could watch them on the big screen before I shot the film.”

Booking a private screening room, the 32-year-old watched the original films, Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

“It was amazing. That was one of the big joys of going through it and letting the magic seep in – then leaving it behind to do the job you’re doing,” he told Independent.co.uk.

Meanwhile, the flame-haired star doesn’t seem bothered by his A-List status and instead focuses on the quality of his work more than anything.

“I’ve no idea [if I’m entering the A-List]. All I know is, when you read a great script, you know it,” he admitted.

“And I’ve been lucky – over the course of two years I’ve got to read a number of them, and got to be in a few. So I’m hoping I can continue that.”

Despite the About Time actor’s rising fame, Domhnall insisted he will always be very proud to be called Irish.

“I love my home. Whereas some people do not like either where they came from or who they grew up with, I’m very lucky – in that all of those things were positive to me,” he revealed.

“I got very, very lucky in the lottery of where you were born.”

The news comes as Domhnall brought his father Brendan Gleeson along to the world premiere of the latest Star Wars film, as well as his pal Love/Hate’s Laurence Kinlan.
