Miriam O'Callaghan: 'I've no interest in becoming the boss at RTE'

Miriam O’Callaghan has revealed that she has no interest in becoming the top boss at RTE.

It was announced last week that Noel Curran would be stepping down from his post as Director General for the station next March, but the TV presenter has insisted she has no interested in taking up the role.

“I can say it now that it’s all out in the open, but I adore Noel Curran,” she said.

TV: Miriam isn’t interested in becoming the boss

“I joined RTE in September 1992 on a show called Market Place and he joined RTE on the same day on the same programme.”

“He’s the most decent, kind, caring boss.”

“He’s wonderful and I’m really sorry to see him go, but I’m also delighted for him – he’s going to have loads of exciting things to do,” she added.

Miriam explained that she already loves the job she’s in and wouldn’t like to have to give people bad news.

“It’s very hard work being the top manager, in my job I don’t have to give anyone bad news,” she said.

“I can be tough on politicians and that can be very enjoyable, but when you’re the top boss you have a huge responsibility.”

“I would never like to be the DG, and I don’t think they’d offer it to me anyway.”

It comes after Miriam previously revealed that the driving force behind her highly successful career are her children.
