EXCLUSIVE! Irish designer will debut dress at the Golden Globes

Up and coming Irish designer Eamonn McGill is set to debut one of his designs at this weekend’s Golden Globes.

The Dublin fashionista has already designed gowns for the likes of Amanda Byram, Miss Universe Ireland Joanna Cooper, Holly Carpenter and Nadia Forde.

But on Sunday night the designer will get to showcase his latest gown on the Golden Globes red carpet.

“On New Year’s Day I woke up to a very early email from a lady named Jennifer Clerkin,” Eamonn told Goss.ie.

Star on the rise: Eamonn dressed Amanda Byram at the IFTAs

“Jennifer’s father is Jim Clerkin, the president and CEO of LVMH (Louis Vuitton, Moet Hennesy) and Jennifer was mailing me to explain she was going to be attending the golden globes as a guest of LVMH.

“Jennifer was so complimentary of my work, and really wanted to wear an Irish designer and so she asked if I would dress her for the Globes.

“Genuinely I did not know if it was real or a dream. I still find it hard to believe that it’s real.

Eamonn revealed that after speaking with Jennifer the pair came up with a special design, which he shared with Goss.ie.

Design: Eamonn sketched this for Jennifer

“Jennifer wanted something classic, old Hollywood with a modern edge. I sketched up a design and once that was approved I started making the dress. With a weeks notice I was worried but knew I manage to get the job done by moving some of my commissions around,” he said.

“The design involved a train with over 800 black silk organza petals mixed with lace and tule which all had to be hand sewn onto the skirt. Thankfully my amazing intern Richie was there to help me.

“It was a all hands on deck the dress took over my whole studio- there is still everywhere!”

“It’s quite exciting, I always imagined one of my dresses floating down the red carpet at the golden globes but the dress is now on its way to LA for that very reason, being worn by a beautiful lady sharing a table with movie stars and Vogue editors.

Experimental: Eamonn designed Joanna Cooper’s outfit at Miss Universe

“I’m genuinely over the moon and so happy that people are starting to support young designers.

“Ive just graduated NCAD and completed an internship with Marchesa in New York and already I’ve dressed Amanda Byram for the IFTAs, made the national costume for Ireland at Miss Universe in Las Vegas and now this.

“To see people are supporting young talent is amazing,” he added.

There will be a host of Irish stars at the Globes this weekend, with both Saoirse Ronan and Michael Fassbender up for Best Actress and Best Actor.
