Sing Street director John Carney has tipped Saoirse Ronan to win the Oscar for her portrayal in Brooklyn.
Going against the grain of other film commentators, the film maker insisted that he’d love to work with the Carlow beauty.
“I’d love to write something for Saoirse – if she’d have me,” he said.

“She’s a big star. We’re going to lose her once she gets this Oscar, which I think she is going to get.”
Speaking to the Herald, the Dubliner said there is in no doubt about who he thinks will take home the Best Actress award at the coveted film event.
“Everyone is on Brie but I’m on Saoirse,” he said.
