Daniel O'Donnell: 'I would never do Strictly again'

Daniel O’Donnell has insisted he will never take part in Strictly Come Dancing again.

Despite making many new friends on the BBC show, the Donegal crooner admitted he was “crippled” by nerves.

“I was absolutely terrified every week. I can’t begin to tell you the feeling I had when I was waiting to dance,” he said.

“If it was only the live show then I certainly wouldn’t do it again.”

“That’s not because there was anybody who didn’t make me enjoy it. I met so many good friends on the show,” he revealed.

“It’s only because of my nerves. I would always be nervous before a concert or whatever but I never woke up in the morning and would be nervous – that was just crippling for me.”

The 53-year-old was voted off the show on Sunday night but the singer jumped to the defence of his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff.

“Kristina is an absolute gem. I feel so bad for her that she gets so much negative press but the girl I have spent all that time learning to dance with is an absolute treasure,” he told BBC’s Stephen Nolan Show.

“I hope that will be seen by people who make judgments simply because of what they read in the papers.”

Although still reeling from his shock departure from Strictly, the twinkle toed star admitted he’s looking forward to returning to his native Co Donegal.

“I’m so looking forward to getting back to the people. There is nobody like them. I’m looking forward to going back to playing cards in Kincaslagh and the ceili in Ardara,” he revealed.

“Being at home is just fantastic.”
