Ray D'Arcy: 'I had to coax Jenny back to work but I couldn't of moved to RTE without her'

Ray D’Arcy revealed he wouldn’t have made the move from Today FM to RTE without his wife, Jenny Kelly’s support.

It’s proved to be a positive move to the national broadcaster from Today FM for Ray after he saw his JNLR figures this week jump by 33,000 listeners.

Opening up about the tough decision to move on from the commerical station after 14 years, the 51-year-old admitted he “long chats” with Jenny.

“Jenny and I had long chats about the move,” he said.

“None of us had a crystal ball but we tried to predict what was going to happen and ask ourselves how would we cope with it and at the end of it all, we agreed that it would be a rocky enough ride but to go for it.

“I couldn’t have done it without Jenny’s support. Because she had given up work and I had to coax her back into coming back in here because she had decided to stay at home with the kids,” he told the Daily Mail.

“So I said I couldn’t do it without her and she said okay and here we are.”

The Kildare native admitted he’s enjoying his new schedule which allows him to spend more time with his children.

“We were up at 7:40 this morning, so I left Tom at 9:15 so I was with Tom for an hour and a half this morning. That didn’t exist when I was on Today FM,” he explained.

“Now you do lose a bit at the other end of the day, but they are getting older so that is getting less important as they are staying up longer and they don’t want your company.”

While it’s been a positive week for the RTE star, he did come under attack for his interview with Making a Murderer lawyer Dean Strang, which left some viewers disappointed.

“A number of people who hadn’t seen it told me that they got it and that was my job done,” he admitted.
