Saoirse Ronan and Michael Fassbender receive Critics Choice Award nominations

Irish films continue their takeover this season – receiving a total of nine nominations at the 2016 Critics Choice Awards.

Brooklyn star Saoirse Ronan picked up a Best Actress nomination for her captivating performance in the flick.

The Carlow star’s film Brooklyn also picked up a three other nominations including Best Adapted Screenplay for Nick Hornby as well as Best Production Design and Costume Design.

Nominated: Michael Fassbender was nominated for his role in Steve Jobs

Meanwhile Michael Fassbender was recognised in the Best Actor category for his role in the biopic Steve Jobs.

Irish filmmaker Lenny Abrahamsons flick, Room was nominated for Best Picture, while Emma Donoghue was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay based on the Booker nominated novel.

The highly-anticipated movie’s cast was also recognised with a Best Actress nomination for Brie Larson while Jacob Tremblay was nominated in the Young Actor/Actress category.

The winners of the Critics Choice Awards will be announced on January 17.
