The first trailer for Jonathan Rhys Meyers new film Stonewall has been released.
Due to hit the big screen in the US on September 25, the gay rights drama tells the story of the 1969 police raid of the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village that became one of the defining moments of the gay rights movement.
The film centres around Danny, played by Jeremy Irvine, who is thrown out of his home and flees to New York where he is introduced to the regulars at the Stonewall Inn.
Directed by Roland Emmerich, the flick also stars film heavyweights Ron Perlman and Jonny Beauchamp.
Although there is no date for an Irish release yet, the movie’s scheduled US release coincides with the build-up to awards season.
The trailer comes after Jonathan Rhys Meyers was spotted on a date night with his fiancée Mara Lane.
