Millie Bobby Brown has responded to backlash she received, after she said that the main character, Joe Goldberg, in You was “not creepy.”

The hit Netflix show has been causing controversy online in recent weeks, as many fans have admitted to liking the main character, who manipulates a woman into loving him.

Penn Badgley, who plays Joe Goldberg, has even spoken out about fans liking the character and admitted that he was confused by people’s reactions.

Yesterday, Millie shared a video on Instagram in which she said that Joe is “not creepy, he’s in love with her”.

The 14-year-old’s comments sparked major backlash online, as many criticised the teen for seeing the character in that way.

“(M)illie bobby brown is on her ig story saying that joe from you “isn’t creepy he’s in love with her” honey……. sweetie no,” one fan tweeted.

“Why is millie bobby brown saying Joe from You isn’t a stalker and is just madly in love with Beck so his actions are fine…that’s not love b***h, girl I-,” another one said.

Many others hit out at people for criticising the young actress, as they said she is a “child” and many of them compared her comments to people’s past obsessions with Edward Cullen from Twilight.

Millie has now responded to the backlash, as she took to Instagram to say: “So I just finished You and I guess the other day I made a video. I was on episode two, I guess I gathered an analysis too quickly.”

“[I] watched episode ten…most definitely is a stalker. But it was a really great show so I’m really excited for season two. My bad if I upset anyone,” she finished.
