Niall Horan usually wins praise for his performances, and just generally being a charming Irish man – but now, he’s winning praise for his response to online trolls.
In a new interview with Esquire, the former One Direction star opened up about his style evolution, and how he handles criticism today versus how he handled it back in his 1D days.
“Back in the day it used to be that you’d read stuff and be like, ‘Aw, is that what they think of me?’ But the way the world turns is you can do no right, so I’ve just gone past the point of caring,” he said.
“Apparently all these people who are writing to you are perfect, so they have every right to say that to you. So they can go f**k themselves.”

The Mullingar man also addressed the hilarious reaction on social media after he wore a particularly large hat during his performance at the American Music Awards this year.
“To be honest, I thought it was a lot smaller,” he laughed. “I didn’t realize how big the brim was until I got onto the stage and there were mirrors on either side of the stage.
“I literally shouted at my drummer, ‘Is the brim on this hat too big?’ He just said no, obviously, because we were just about to go live on TV.”
Hat or no hat, people were loving Niall’s response to haters on Twitter:
“Apparently all these people who are writing to you are perfect, they have every right to say that you. So they can go FUCK themselves.”

I personally love this part. He’s way more confident than he was a year ago and I love that. Niall’s style is fantastic no matter what dumb people say. pic.twitter.com/hITclXmULX
