Irish rugby players vow they WILL be pulling pints in their dream new pub – as they open doors

Rugby star Dave Kearney has insisted that he plans to pull pints behind the bar at his new pub.

The Irish player has teamed up with Jamie Heaslip, Rob and Dave Kearney and Sean O’Brien to open The Bridge 1859.

And Dave told Goss.ie that he isn’t just purely adding his name to the project – along with the other lads he’s been learning how to become a barman.

Asked if he’s learnt how to pull a pint yet, he said: “We did it in training, which was good craic. We got the hang of it pretty quick.

“I haven’t really got involved behind the bar too much yet, but maybe when we get busier I will.”

However brother Rob admitted that The Grafton Lounge’s Noel Anderson – who they’ve teamed up with – isn’t letting him serve customers just yet.

He told Goss.ie: “They don’t really trust me with pulling pints yet, I’ve only made my way to the coffee machine. But I’m slowly working my way up.”

And Dave insisted that punters should expect to see the four of them in the pub, which cost them €1.35million, a lot.

He added: “I have been in here a fair bit over the last few weeks – for food, to see how the place is going, and obviously game nights we’ll be in here as well.

“A lot of work has gone into over the last few months. It definitely is what we wanted it to look like – but it’s hard when you look at the plans, and what you see when you come down in person.”

Now Dave is hoping that working at The Bridge 1859 – which was formerly Bellamy’s – will help him boost his business skills.

He added: “I’d like to get a better knowledge of the business things, I’m studying business in DIT part-time, so it gives me a better knowledge of things.”
