Irish designers dominate at the 2024 Met Gala

Irish designers dominated at the 2024 Met Gala, taking over the star-studded carpet on Monday night.

The dress code for this year’s fundraiser was “The Garden of Time”, as attendees were invited to celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

From Sarah Jessica Parker to Ariana Grande, here are some of the celebs who wore Irish-designed looks at the biggest night in fashion.

Sarah Jessica Parker – Philip Treacy

Sarah Jessica Parker often shares her grá for Ireland, and decided to support Irish at fashion’s biggest night in New York City.

The actress wowed in a cream embellished dress by London-based designer Richard Quinn, who has Irish roots.

The Sex and the City star paired the gown with a custom hat by Irish milliner Philip Treacy, who is a celebrate favourite.

Treacy has made hats for a host of stars over the years, including Lady Gaga, Madonna, Meghan Markle, and a number of Royal family members.

Ariana Grande – Loewe

Ariana Grande hit the carpet in a custom Loewe gown, designed by Northern Irish man Jonathan Anderson.

The singer’s white bustier gown featured a hand-pleated, multi-layer silk chiffon skirt with her makeup completing the look.

JW Anderson is the creative director of the Spanish fashion house, and designed many looks at the event for other celebrities.

Lana Del Rey – Alexander McQueen

Lana Del Rey is the next celeb to wear a look by an Irish designer at the fashion event.

The singer wore a custom-made look from Alexander McQueen by creative director Seán McGirr.

The gown featured hand-embroidered bronze hawthorn branches, taking inspiration from the classic Sleeping Beauty tale, and was completed with a large veil that draped over it.

Ayo Edibiri – Loewe

The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri also wore a custom Loewe gown by Irish designer Jonathan Anderson at the Met Gala on Monday night.

The halter-neck dress was covered in hand-painted and hand-embroidered floral lace as it was accessorised with 3D appliqué flowers at the base.

The colourful flowers bloomed from the bottom of the gown for her Met Gala debut.

Zendaya – Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy

Zendaya, who was co-chair of this year’s Met Gala, returned to the red carpet for a second look wearing a Givenchy dress.

The look was completed with a stunning floral headpiece from Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 2007 collection by Philip Treacy.

The headwear by the Irish designer mimicked the look of an unusual colourful bouquet of flowers.

Jamie Dornan – Loewe

Jamie Dornan stood out for his Met Gala debut in a classic three-piece suit covered in beadwork from the fashion house Loewe.

The actor was another star who sported a look from the brand’s creative director and fellow Northern Irishman JW Anderson.

The Irish star ditched the typical black suit for the carpet, and opted against a safe choice.

Eve Hewson – Simone Rocha

Irish actress Eve Hewson wore a custom-made gown by Irish designer Simone Roche on the carpet for the 2024 Met Gala.

The stunning nude tulle and corseted dress featured hand-embellished crystal daisy detailing.

The dress was inspired by the designer’s Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, which explored preserved garments.
