Eight young Irish Students and their Teachers touched down in Cannes, France this week for the 71st Cannes International Film Festival, The Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture winners were at the festival to showcase their unique creations which scooped them the coveted trip at the recent final at Dublin’s 3 Arena.
The Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture prize winners mingled with movie stars and the social elite at the festival in their striking works of wearable and recycled art.
Sara Ryan from Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture added, This is what the competition’s all about. It’s about showcasing our young national talent on an international stage, and rewarding our winners with a truly unforgettable experience in exchange for all their hard work over the past year. We have had an amazing few days, as part of their winning prize, the students were also flown by helicopter to Monaco.
Among the winners on the glitzy trip was Isabelle Clarke of Our Lady’s Bower School, Athlone who was joined by fellow student Mary Brody who helped her design the creation entitled Moo which won the overall prestigious Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture trophy and €2,500 cash for their school. The dress was made with 300 milk cartons which were cut into shapes and connected together by over 30,000 O rings.
Other students showcasing their work included: Siofra Eggo – Dumfries Academy, Scotland, Rachel Irwin from City of Armagh High School,Aisling Shiel – Malahide Community School, Jamie Yap – Scoil Muire Community School. Naas Co Kildare, Catherine Lennon-St Louis School – Ballymena, Liberty McGovern -Our Lady’s Bower School, Athlone and Claire Murphy- Presentation Secondary School .
