Downton Abbey’s Brendan Coyle has been cast in upcoming film The Rising.
The TV star, best known as valet John Bates, will play the role of politician Augustine Birrell in the historical flick about the 1916 Easter Rising.
Augustine Birrell was Britain’s chief secretary for Ireland from 1907 to 1916 and resigned following the Easter Rising.

According to Variety, the actor will join Liam Neeson’s son Michael who will reportedly play Michael Collins.
Irish actor Colin Morgan will play the lead role of Sean McDermott, who masterminded the Easter Rising, while David O’Hara will star as revolutionary leader James Connolly.
Meanwhile, Shane MacGowan of the Pogues will write the theme song for the film.
