Saoirse Ronan has lost out on the Oscar for Best Actress.
The Carlow native was nominated for her starring role in Brooklyn, however American actress Brie Larson took home the gold for Room.
The 26-year-old actress was the favourite to win the award after already winning a series of gongs for the role, including the Golden Globe for Best Actress.
Saoirse was previously nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2008 for her role in Atonement but lost out to Tilda Swinton.
Brie landed the only win for Room which was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The actress paid tribute to director Lenny Abrahamson and writer Emma Donoghue during her acceptance speech.
