Revealed: Love/Hate will focus on Traveller life of Patrick when show returns in 2016

Love/Hate is set to focus on the life of pipe bomber Patrick when it returns in 2016.

The RTE series won’t be back next year, following the death of Nidge during the season finale.

Now it has emerged that creator Stuart Carolan wants to delve further into the world of Travellers and John Connors’ character.

A source said: “Stuart is fascinated by the Traveller community.

“It was the only storyline that really interested him in season five and now Patrick has killed Nidge it seems a natural progression to follow Patrick’s story.”

The 24-year-old was congratulated by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor this week when they met at the opening night of his Howie The Rookie play.

A source told the Irish Mirror: “Tom is happy to pass the gauntlet on to Patrick.

“He was really impressed with his acting ability this year and he knows Stuart will write something amazing for him.”

Previously John admitted that Stuart would consult him to make sure the Traveller storyline was accurate.

“From day one before he wrote anything we sat down and we talked for about 10 hours,” he said.

“He wanted to nail the whole culture and have it so authentic that when Travellers look at it they go, ‘yeah, that’s real’.”
