Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Dr. Ranj Singh, has opened up about coming out to his wife.
The This Morning doctor was married for over five years before he realised that he was unhappy in the relationship.
“I was completely broken. It was the lowest point in my life. I can only imagine how hard it was for my wife, though – she didn’t deserve any of that. I feel so incredibly sorry for what she had to go through,” he told The Mirror.
“I accepted that it wasn’t right and it had to end. It was so hard and I still don’t like thinking about it. I felt like my heart had been wrenched out of my chest,” the doctor continued.
Ranj also stated that he only got married because he felt under pressure to settle down and have a family, but that he genuinely loved his wife.
The doctor will be competing in this year’s season of Strictly Come Dancing and recently called on BBC bosses to pair him up with a male dancer.
“I would love to dance with a same-sex partner. I would value a time when same-sex couples could dance on shows like Strictly. It is incredibly important. We are making progress but there is still time to go,” he told the Daily Mail.
BBC bosses declined the doctor’s request and stated that the show will continue with the “ballroom dancing format of mixed-sex couples.”
