Sir Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills reveals she was on ‘liquid diet’ after contracting Lyme disease

Sir Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills has revealed she was on a “liquid diet” after contracting Lyme disease.

The former model revealed the illness left her with a “burst appendix” and “always in agony” after the removal of her gallbladder.

In 1993, Heather also had her leg amputated after a car accident.

Speaking to The Telegraph she discussed her company VBites which she was inspired to create as a result of her own health struggles.

Heather was diagnosed with Lyme Disease after she returned from a mission in Cambodia with Katharine, Duchess of Kent in 1999.

She told the publication: “They misdiagnosed it as dengue fever. It was actually Lyme Disease.”

“It wiped out my microbiome, my colon, everything. My appendix burst. Then they took my gallbladder out which they didn’t need to take out.”

“So I suddenly couldn’t digest anything. So I had to live off liquid food for three years,” she revealed.

“I was always in agony. I would lose complete control of my bowels and have to jump out of cars.”

According to the HSE, Lyme disease is a “bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks. It’s usually easier to treat if it’s diagnosed early.”

Some people also have flu-like symptoms in the early stages, such as:

  • A high temperature, or feeling hot and shivery
  • Headaches
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Tiredness and loss of energy
