Kate Garraway shares her heartache as UK lockdown means she can’t visit husband Derek in hospital

Kate Garraway has shared her heartache as new UK lockdown measures mean she cannot visit her husband Derek in hospital.

Derek was admitted to hospital on March 30 after contracting Covid-19, but sadly he remains seriously ill.

The presenter and her husband share two children, Darcey (14) and Billy (11), who were able to visit their father for the first time since his hospitalisation over the Christmas.

On Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, Kate admitted while her first Christmas without her husband was “tough”, her children’s visit was “amazing”.

“It was very heightened with emotions because he’s very changed… It was one of those moments that was so wonderful, but it also amplified how sad everything was and how different it is.

“I’m very grateful to have had that opportunity, and now I’m in a position where even I can’t visit,” she explained.

The UK has entered a national lockdown, which means residents must stay at home with limited exceptions for the foreseeable future.

Kate shared her daughter’s heartbreaking plea with the public, as she is left unable to see her sick father once again.

“Darcey says, ‘I just want to tell everyone please follow the rules everyone because I can’t stand this any longer’.

“And I think that is the answer, please lets stick to it this time and hopefully we’ll get through it,” she added.
