Jade Thirlwall defends Little Mix’s raunchy lyrics: ‘It’s empowering to sing about sex’

Jade Thirlwall has defended Little Mix’s raunchy lyrics in their new album Confetti.

The popular girlband dropped their album on Friday, with tracks such as ‘Rendezvous’ and ‘Nothing But My Feelings’ containing more risqué lyrics than their usual hits.

Speaking to The Sun about the suggestive songs, Jade admitted they took inspiration from female artists such as Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion with their hit track WAP.

“We’re always going to write and record music from personal experience, and yeah we’re grown women, we have sex,” the Newcastle beauty told the publication.

“I find it really empowering, especially right now when you’ve got artists like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion doing songs like WAP.

“I’m so for women being in control of their sexual experiences and singing about it. It’s great,” she added.

“Men have been doing it for God knows how long, so why can’t women do it and be praised for it?”

Jade’s bandmate Perrie Edwards also addressed the lyrics in an interview with Metro, explaining: “I think there’s a way of doing it, there’s being really cheeky and being a bit naughty but not full out saying it.

“It’s just getting clever with the lyrics and I think we’ve done that a lot in the past because we know we have a young fan base.

“But we’re women,” she added, “We’re mature women, we want to talk about naughty things but we like to respect our fans as well.”
