Ed Sheeran fell victim to a hilarious prank and has been trending all over the world – all because of one hashtag.
The singer began trending on Twitter today after a prank by Radio One DJ Greg James went viral.
Greg jokingly told Ed’s fans that he wanted to honour his record breaking album Divide, by beginning the cheeky hashtag “Sheeranalbumparty”.
It isn’t the first time that this hashtag has been seen online, as singer Susan Boyle fell into a similar situation after a PR stunt for her album backfired in 2012.

When Susan released her album, it came with the tag “susanalbumparty”, in order to encourage fans to buy the album.
However despite it clearly reading Susan Album Party, some fans read the message wrong and it went viral.
Now the same thing has happened to Ed, and there has been some seriously hilarious reactions online:
Proof you should always capitalise your hashtags… ?? #sheeranalbumparty

Seriously??? I think someone made an arse of themselves with this hashtag. #sheeranalbumparty

The #sheeranalbumparty hashtag makes me feel old. So many people apparently have no idea Susan Boyle had an anal bum party way before Ed.

FFS capitalise your tags properly #SheerAnalBumParty so people don’t think you’re the kind of genetic flotsam that listens to Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran’s publicist will surely win some sort of award for #sheeranalbumparty by the end of the year. Stroke of genius.

Ok, the person at Radio 1 who came up with #sheeranalbumparty is a borderline genius.
