Dr Alex George gets tattoo tribute for younger brother Llŷr a year after his death

Dr Alex George has gotten a tattoo tribute for younger brother Llŷr, a year after his death.

Llŷr was just 19 when he tragically took his own life on July 23, 2020.

Alex, who rose to fame on Love Island in 2018, has since gotten a tattoo of a wave on his wrist in honour of his brother.

In a YouTube video, the A&E doctor explained that the name ‘Llŷr’ means god of the sea in Welsh, which is what inspired the tattoo.

He said: “I didn’t want to write his name directly, so I got something not quite so triggering – a simple wave.”

Sharing a photo of him getting inked to Instagram, Alex wrote: “This ones for you my boy 💙 After losing Llŷr, I have wanted to pay a permanent tribute to him and what he means to me. I miss him every single day.”

Alex marked his brother’s anniversary back in July, sharing a selfie of him and Llŷr with their parents to Instagram.

He wrote at the time: “I can’t believe it’s been a year. Some days I really can’t accept or understand that you are not here. We miss you so much Llŷr.”

“You give me so much strength, even when times are tough and it would be easy to give up. Mum, Dad and Elliott are doing ok, they miss you so much too. I would do anything to go out for a spin in the car with you again. Love you x”

Alex has been actively campaigning for better mental health provision since the death of his brother.

He was appointed as a mental health ambassador by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this year.
