Winter Love Island host Laura Whitmore responds to diversity criticism

The upcoming series of Winter Love Island has been hit by its annual backlash for lack of diversity.

The appointment of Love Island host Laura Whitmore has also faced criticism for the same reason.

Laura nabbed the job over rumoured names such as Rochelle Humes, Maya Jama and Maura Higgins.

However, Laura has addressed the backlash in a new interview:

She told The Sun: “I think all of them are brilliant hosts. And I’m friends with everyone.”

“I think the most important thing is for everyone to be in the room and everyone to have an opportunity.”

“It’s the same when it comes to the gender pay gap. I just think it comes down to you should get paid what you’re worth.”

“It doesn’t matter what your gender is, what your race is, everyone is equal and everyone should have equal opportunity.”

Laura landed in Cape Town yesterday to start work on the show.

She replaced pal Caroline Flack on the show, following Caroline’s arrest.
