The Masked Dancer viewers react as the final four celebrities are unmasked

The final of The Masked Dancer UK took place on Saturday night.

The wacky show premiered on ITV and Virgin Media One last weekend, and saw twelve celebrities perform dance routines while disguised in extravagant costumes.

Each night, judges Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Oti Mabuse tried to guess the character’s true identities, before one celebrity is eliminated and unmasked at the end of each episode.

The twelve characters for this season were Zip, Carwash, Beagle, Squirrel, Scarecrow, Frog, Beetroot, Viper, Rubber Chicken, Flamingo, Knickerbocker Glory and Llama.

Zip, Carwash, Squirrel and Scarecrow made it to the final four, with Scarecrow coming in fourth place.

Actress Tamzin Outhwaite, best known for her role as Mel Owen in EastEnders, was behind the Scarecrow costume.

The Zip came in third place, and Take That star Howard Donald was behind the mask.

The Carwash was crowned the winner of the series, with Olympian Louis Smith behind the costume.

Taking to Twitter after the final aired, viewers admitted they would love another season of the show after a “very entertaining” first season.

One fan wrote: “I was glad the host of #TheMaskedDancer referred to crowning “our 1st champion of ‘The Masked Dancer’,” implying there was likely to be another series. This week’s programmes have been very entertaining, & I prefer them to #TheMaskedSinger.”

A second tweeted: “I did get the other two correct from the final clues and changed my answers. Thoroughly enjoyed The Masked Dancer, really lifted my spirits and every bit as good as The Masked Singer and hope it comes back for another series.”
