Republic of Telly host Kevin McGahern praises new RTÉ comedy project: 'It's f**king great'

RTÉ has launched a new set of comedy shows which be available exclusively on the RTÉ Player.

The new shows will feature a number of up and coming Irish comedians who have worked with the development team in RTÉ and gives them a chance to showcase their talents and comedic ideas.

Speaking to Goss.ie at the launch Republic of Telly star Kevin McGahern said he was delighted to see new talent.

“It’s brilliant for comedy because for a long time there was no where to really go in Ireland, you would do stand up gigs, if you were really good you had to go to England. I think it’s great for RTÉ, it doesn’t cost that much and it’s F**king great,” he said.

Eddie Doyle, Head of Comedy at RTÉ, was involved in the selection process of the up and coming series.

“We are constantly looking at ways to discover and provide a platform for new talent and RTÉ Player offers both the flexibility to experiment with emerging talent and an audience that enjoys home-grown comedy,” he said.

A number of sketches or Comedy Bites will be available across four weeks on the Irish and International player meaning the Irish people abroad can tune into hours of homegrown TV.

“The short form format really lends itself to comedy and the sketches we have selected from these talented production companies is of a really high standard,” he added.
