Rachel Wyse refuses to let sexist insults affect her – else she 'wouldn't be getting up in the morning'

Sky Sports star Rachel Wyse has insisted she never lets insults get to her – after Joe Brolly’s sexist jibe.

The RTE commentator was forced to apologise after he referred to Rachel as a “Baywatch babe” after her role hosting GAA was announced.

But Rachel, 30, said: “If I let every negative person affect me I wouldn’t be getting up in the morning.”

She added: “I’m not claiming to be an expert on the GAA but I certainly love the game and for me to cover some wonderful games, especially that hurling final, was a huge honour.

“I just want to focus on doing my job to the best of my ability and show I can do what the other guys do as well.”

The ex-model has become a huge name during her four years at Sky Sports – which has seen her become the first female presenter of GAA.

But Dubliner Rachel has admitted it wasn’t easy to break into the male-dominated industry.

She said: “There are loads of opportunities for females — once you have proven yourself.

“I have been at Sky four years now and I have worked hard and done the really difficult shifts of 2am starts and super late nights.

“You just have to keep your head down and learn as much as you can.”

And Rachel says while Joe may have been sexist – Sky Sports isn’t.

She added: “Walking around Sky Sports, it’s really close to being 50/50 males and females.”
