Pat Kenny insists he's not worried about Frontline's replacement Claire Byrne Live

Pat Kenny has said he’s not worried about RTE’s replacement for The Frontline.

The former RTE star hosted the flagship show from 2009-2013 but was eventually scrapped.

Now Prime Time host Claire Byrne will host Claire Byrne Live, with a very similar format, in January.

Pat’s new UTV show will also start in January, but the presenter insisted Claire’s series won’t affect his.

The Frontline: Pat’s show was axed last year

“I wish Claire the best but obviously none of this would have happened if RTE hadn’t killed The Frontline in the first place,” Pat said.

“Let them at it. It won’t affect my show.

“Obviously, they (RTE) could never admit they got it wrong in axing The Frontline,” Pat told the Irish Independent.

The Newstalk host even suggested RTE were “killing” the show by placing it at the same time as Vincent Browne on TV3 and UTV Ireland’s new news show.

“You have Vincent Browne starting at 11pm on TV3, UK programmes like ‘Newsnight’, UTV Ireland will have their news programme at 10pm. It’s a tough slot.

“In a way they’re killing it before it starts,” he said.
