TV star Nuala Carey has told how she was inspired by Michael Flatley to get into RTE.
The Dubliner – who now hosts the National Lottery and the RTE weather – admitted she was determined to get a job in the State broadcaster.
And Nuala, 37, said that it was the wise words of superhoofer Flatley that gave her the confidence to bag her dream job.

“When I was in school I always wanted to work in RTE and I did my work experience
there and I really enjoyed it, I just liked the atmosphere, I liked the place,” she said.
“Michael Flatley always said, ‘If you can see it, you can do it’ and I remember when I had the audition for the weather job, I could close my eyes and see myself presenting on the weather.
“I cut the cardboard back off a box of cornflakes, I drew a little map of Ireland and Britain on the wall.

“And I was watching the weather forecast and I was kind of putting my hands up towards as if it was the real thing, so that when I actually got as far as the screen test, I had no fear.”
Now Nuala is looking forward to judging the Rose of Tralee competition for the second time – and hit out at people who don’t think there’s a place for it.
She told Woman’s Way: “I know people snigger at it, but over a million people watch it every year, they’re over run with girls interested in being part of it.

“You’re interviewing 50 girls and I’m very conscious 49 girls will go home disappointed.
“The standard is high, they are so well rounded with degrees coming out their ears, very good people.”
And Nuala admitted she can’t wait for the upcoming party.
She added: “The Rose of Tralee people, if you go to bed before three in the morning, they’re looking at you like you’re a bit of a drip, so you need a lot of stamina.”
