Ian Noctor has opened up about replacing Ivan Yates on TV3’s Sunday AM.

The Waterford native revealed that getting the role was a shock, but he’s chuffed to be taking on the job.

“I am 47 years of age and this is my first foray into television and – you can imagine when you are at this point in your life – you kind of think ‘yeah, what I have, I have now,'” he told the Sunday Independent.

“Then this came out of the blue and I’m thinking, ‘Jaysus this is brilliant!'”

Ian admitted that he thinks Ivan is a “larger than life character” but he has a personality of his own that he hopes viewers will like.

“I have a personality of my own and I’m going to let it shine through, be as much myself as I can be, and not allow myself to get too nervous and hopefully the viewers will like it.

“If somebody winds me up or if something comes to my mind that I feel is worth saying, I’ll absolutely say it.

“I wouldn’t be any sort of a shrinking violet,” he said.

Describing himself as “a bit of a nerd with a sense of humour” he said he has a keen love of politics and current affairs.
