The House of the Dragon has been confirmed for a third season before its second season even airs.

The HBO show is a prequel series to the hit show Game of Thrones, following the house of Targaryen 200 years before the events of the original show.

The show premiered in 2022 and was met with rave reviews as the second season is set to be released on June 16th.

Ahead of the release of the new episodes, HBO announced the hit show will also return for a third season.

Francesca Orsi, the networks programming and drama series chief, said in a statement: “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivalled by its heart.”

The plot of House of the Dragon shows the decline of the family which leads all of Westeros – letting fans see how the noble house got to where it was when we meet Daenerys Targaryen in the original show.

The series has a stellar a-list cast including Paddy Considine who plays King Viserys I Targaryen and his younger brother Prince Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith.

Earlier this week, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys from 2011 to 2019, admitted she feared being fired from Game of Thrones following suffering a brain injury.

The cast also includes Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Rhys Ifans.

In 2022, the actress revealed she suffered two brain aneurysms – one in 2011 and another in 2013.

Speaking to Big Issue, the 37-year-old confessed that she thought she might lose her job on the hit fantasy show after the health issues.

Emilia told the publication: “When you have a brain injury, because it alters your sense of self on such a dramatic level, all of the insecurities you have going into the workplace quadruple overnight.”

“The first fear we all had was: ‘Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Am I going to get fired because they think I’m not capable of completing the job?’”

She suffered the brain haemorrhages between filming seasons of Game of Thrones – heading back to work weeks after her first brain injury.
