Gay Byrne has said a new Late Late Show set is pointless – unless the show is any good.
The RTE legend said is “isn’t worth a damn” in reality, as viewers complain about how American it looks.
And Gay, who hosted the Late Late for 39 years, said it wouldn’t help Ryan Tubridy if he was woeful on screen

He told the Irish Sun: “I’ve been through three or four set changes. As far as I’m concerned it means absolutely nothing.
“If what’s happening on screen is boring and tedious, a new set won’t help you.”

Gaybo also revealed he once wanted to dump the set entirely to concentrate on guests.
He added: “The design department went ballistic over it, and I mean ballistic. I thought bare bricks would build excitement.”
